During long week end holiday of memorial day observed in the memories of > world war heroes, we pllaned to visit some of the water falls of northern > california.Nimish accessed some of these through internet and planned > accordingly and booked Motel Best Western at Reding city.> > We have to make a lot of preparation for any such trip, as we have to make > long drive and need all the facilites, so as not to get troubled due to non > availability of any thing. We gathered food like pettis for veg burger and > buns, khakhra, fruits, drinks, sweets, sitting chadars, camping gas, camera , > cam corder, tip top car maitenance, goggles, caps, sweaters etc etc.,> > We started at around 9.00 am for a drive of 200 miles ( 380km) from > Livermore to Oroville, to visit some of the waterfalls. We had panaromic view of the > lake, since we were hungry, we took a break for lunch and found lunch > table. Here I would like to tell you that in USA wherever we go we definately > get wooden lunch table with attached benches, so that people can eat food at > ease and there will definately be garbage bin to dump your garbages and > strictly no littering. We tried to light the gas burner, but in built > lighter was not working and we had no match box, so we ate cold sandwiches, > juices, our sweets, etc. We thereafter took a road towards Oroville village > and dam seen from the watch tower, found the way to dam.It was a decent > scenic place. Here we got a phone call from snehal, who at that time was > with Nipa, anvay and dhrut in philadelphia state visitng some Seasame street > park and enjoying water rides. We thereafter boarded the car and took a > round on the dam. Surprisingly huge dam and other deep crevice side of the > dam was just guaded with some loose open chain links, which was very very > dangerous to walk around though some people were does walking on the dam > site. We thereafter took directions from the local stores and went near one > water fall where people were sitting, upon asking them they said that it is > around half a mile away, so we started walking towards waterfalls.we did > came across very small water falls , but then going ahead was too dangerous, > as we were onthe upper side the fall and we really wanted to see the fall > then we shuld go the the lower side of the fall. From here TOP we could > only, see the water falling but cold not see the fall itself. we then > returned and took a say around 80 miles distance from Oroville to Redinngs > driving and reached Redinng at around 20.00hrs, checked in Best Western > motel, ordered pizzas from Dominos, ate it fully and went to bed early.> > Next morning we got up early although we were very tired due to long > drive, still however we woke up say at aound 7.00, am got coffe made from > coffee maker. Our room had fridge, iron and iron board, Tv,phone, two double > queen size bed attached toilet. Sorrounding and > sceninc beauty of the area was beyond description. We were dumb founded, to > have a look at the bridge and huge Sacramento river in the beackground of > the high hills, green top jungel with snow cap mountains, gave me a > reminiscences of film Bridge on the River Kwai. Sun dial bridge's floor is > laid with of GLASS and with sun dial column above on one corner with wires > drawn like ship and the lights underneath that illuminates at night makes > the bridge wonderful sight to visit and see. We moved a lot around this > beautiful place and bid farwell , moved forward towards water falls. We > came to whiskey town lake's vista point. Here too beautiful scenic view > was visible.Down under sprawling huge lake was visible with sorrounding > mountains and as many boats plying, making a picturesque painting like > scene.> > Here Nimish enquired with the visitor centre and took directions for the > waterfalls. we accrodingly reached a parking place near a waterfall. Took > out all the stuff, loaded on the Lipi's stroller and came near the > waterfalls ,walking for around half a mile in dirt, kapachi road.> > This was huge waterfall, with tons of white water falling from the height of > 40-50 feet making huge noise and going down under, turning into fast river > vanishing into the thick bushes. we sat their for some time and first > decided to take lunch. Nimish assembled the camping gas and cooked buns and > vegi pattis, as also rotli, batata nu shak . We ate all this with > juice, sweets,. After taking hefty meal, we went down near the water fall, > sat their for 1 hr, deeped our feet and hand, and played with water (no > further than that,as water was freezing cold) came out of the gorge ,went > further up, to do the rock climbing , but could not muster courage to go > further,so came back, reached near the car.> > We again started to visit another waterfall which was on some height. we > went through visitor centre and reached a beach resort, took dirt roads > towards water fall, but road seemed too long and that if tyre gets punctured > in the evening and if we are are stranded then in this cold weather it was > difficult to stay with Lipi, so ultimately we decided to return, came down > the hill ,sat near the water stream, made tea and coffee with camp gas, Lipi > and all played with water, and then started our journey back to our den > that is to Livermore. It was a drive of around 5 hrs. we came back home, > made masala vegetable khichadi and went to bed early.> > We had an excellent time in those 2 days. especially at 2 waterfalls and > at sun dial bridge.> > niranjan buch ni yaad
